AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE ON THE UTILIZATION OF THE GODAVARI WATERS AND RESOURCES

The RoFR act recognizes the dwelling site, religious places, burial grounds, village council sites along with places of MFP, water resources, biodiverisity etc and also PVT tenures. As the implementation boils down to title deeds for house sites and lands under cultivation, SAKTI engaged the Chenchu youth to document their traditional knowledge in their idiom and dialect, in encouraging them to assert as inborn foresters, capable of managing these resources as envisaged in the Act.

"Since SAKTI activities are mostly issue based and covering a large area, here we concentrate on the forest-related programmes of SAKTI for the present study."

Jaggarajupeta is one of the habitations of Challapalli grama panchayat with present population of 1993 which are belongs to weaker sections of scheduled castes.  As ground water is completely saline in this area people were completely depending upon surface water source like irrigation canals and summer storage water tanks.  The people of Jaggarajupeta suffering with serious drinking water problem as the habitation was situated at the tail end of canal.

There is only one drinking water tank for the entire population which is not in good condition since long time.  The water storage  area was decreased due to distortion of bunds.  In the 1999 summer, the habitation committee has taken some steps for restoration of the water tank.  Even the people of Jaggarajupeta were poor they had improved the bunds of the tank by deponding the bed with their own effort and contribution.  In May, 1999 with the help of a private organisation named as ‘SAKTI’ organisation the people had executed the following works.
