Original conceptualisation of project by the then Madras Presidency - July, 1941

First survey of the project by Diwan Bahadur Venkata Krishna Iyer - Sep'1942

Preliminary investigation was taken up and the project was named as Ramapada Sagar (then its full reservoir level was proposed at 170 ft) - Oct'1942
4. Another survey was conducted and height was proposed at 208 ft -1944

A detailed investigation was done and it was proposed to keep height at 198 ft in the first phase and 208 ft in the second and final phase 1946-47

Experts committee lead by then chief engineer N.Govindaraya Aiyangar decided to go for the two phase project. -1947

Sir SV Rama Murthy proposed a Ramapadasagar scheme with 130 mts dam height and a 1500 MW.of power generation capacity, but it was not pursued due to geological reasons - 1951

A technical committee headed by AC Mitra recommended a barrage at Polavaram to irrigate uplands -1965

Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal was formed - April 1969

AP government named the project as Polavaram and made a case before the tribunal for river control work at Polavaram -1969
