ABOUT US

SAKTI – Empowering Communities, Enriching Lives:

Founded in 1985 by Dr. Sivarama Krishna, SAKTI (Search for Action and Knowledge for Tribal Initiative) has been at the forefront of championing the rights and welfare of marginalized communities, particularly tribal populations in Andhra Pradesh. With a doctorate degree in Tribal Knowledge Systems from Osmania University, Dr. Sivarama Krishna's pioneering work has laid the foundation for SAKTI’s core philosophy — bridging traditional knowledge with contemporary advocacy to empower indigenous communities.

The inspiration behind SAKTI emerged from Dr. Sivarama Krishna’s deep understanding of tribal knowledge systems, documented through years of research and grassroots engagement. His wife, Sarada Devi, joined the movement in 1987, contributing significantly to SAKTI’s mission and strengthening the organization's impact.

Our work spans across East and West Godavari, Khammam, and Kurnool districts, focusing on key areas such as land rights, forest conservation, women’s empowerment, and access to sustainable livelihoods. Through strategic litigation, capacity building, and community mobilization, SAKTI has played a pivotal role in protecting the land and resource rights of tribal communities.

Our unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and sustainability continues to drive our efforts in advocating for policies that promote inclusive development. Guided by the principles of participatory action and knowledge sharing, SAKTI remains dedicated to creating lasting change in the lives of the communities we serve.
